Frank lloyd wright waterfall house tour8/15/2023 ![]() The Oak Park Studio years proved an incredibly prolific period in Wright’s career, during which he pioneered the first uniquely American style-known as the Prairie School-and produced more than a third of his life’s work. Fourteen associates would work within the two-story octagonal drafting room alongside Wright’s private office, library, and reception hall. In 1898, Wright once again expanded the house, with a four-room addition that would serve as his studio for the next eleven years. Though the scale of the playroom is carefully tailored to a child’s point of view, its expansiveness renders it one of the greatest of Wright’s early achievements and signals his ability to deftly manipulate space. It is, however, the playroom that best reveals Wright’s increasing embrace of simplicity. The Kauffman’s wanted a summer home for their family’s weekend sanctuary in Bear Run, PA. Since I have been old enough to drive a car, I have visited Frank Lloyd Wright homes in the Chicagoland area and attended the Wright Plus house walks. My passion has always been the architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright. Edgar Jr., who worked with Wright for six months. As a young girl I enjoyed drawing floor plans, rearranging my parent’s furniture and playing with Lincoln Logs and Legos. Wright designed everything in the home from the lighting and mechanical systems to its furniture and decorative arts. The History of Fallingwater The owners of Fallingwater, are known as Edgar and Liliane Kauffman and were acquaintances of Wright through their son.
